Mizzima: A bomb dropped by a drone exploded near the Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 2, a trade gate on the Thai-Myanmar border, according to sources. Myawaddy residents said that at 12:35 pm today (July 26), the Myanmar side of Friendship Bridge No. 2 was bombed, and a loud explosion was heard and smoke was seen.

“The house was shaking. We were just around the corner. Now there is a lot of commotion around the bridge,” a Myawaddy resident told Mizzima. Some Burmese in Thailand said that the explosion could be heard as far as the center of Mae Sot town on the other side of the Thaung Rin River.

As of 2:00 p.m., the military regime is reportedly busy near Friendship Bridge No. 2. It is not yet known which group carried out the drone bombing, and the details of the incident are still being investigated. The Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 2, a Thai-Myanmar border trade route that had been temporarily closed since August 18, 2025, due to the directives of Nay Pyi Taw and the state government, was reopened on May 28.

Despite the reopening of the bridge, illegal trade is increasing due to restrictions on import licenses, and the military junta is increasing inspections and arrests at checkpoints, targeting illegal goods imported through Myawaddy.
