Troops rescue kidnapped woman after foiling terrorist attack in Katsina
By Zagazola Makama
Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), have rescued a kidnapped woman after engaging suspected terrorists in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 11:22 p.m. on July 26 after troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Radda received a distress call over the activities of armed terrorists at Karkata Village.
The sources said the joint security team swiftly mobilised to the scene but encountered the terrorists before reaching the affected community.
The troops immediately engaged the assailants with heavy volume of fire, forcing them to abandon a kidnapped woman and flee into the surrounding bush.
The victim was successfully rescued by the troops and reunited with her family.
Military sources said there were no casualties among the security personnel, while the number of casualties suffered by the fleeing terrorists could not be immediately ascertained.
Troops have since intensified pursuit operations to apprehend the fleeing terrorists and prevent further attacks in the area.
