OPFY Troops Target Dogo Gide, Najaja, Two Other Terrorist Kingpins in Major Zamfara Offensive
By Zagazola Makama
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a major offensive targeting four notorious terrorist kingpins Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda and Buba Oris disrupting a planned mass movement of armed fighters and neutralising scores of terrorists during coordinated air and ground operations in Zamfara State.
Military sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was triggered by credible intelligence received on July 25, indicating that hundreds of armed terrorists had assembled along the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area under the command of the four terrorist leaders.
According to the sources, the terrorists were believed to be preparing for coordinated operations across parts of Zamfara and neighbouring areas when the intelligence was received.
In response, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA initiated precision interdiction strikes on identified terrorist locations at Barayan Zaki and key crossing points along the Bayarzaki Riverline. Simultaneously, troops of the 8 Division Strike Force established carefully planned ambush positions before launching exploitation operations at first light to intercept the terrorists as they attempted to withdraw.
Military sources said the combined air and ground assault disrupted the terrorists’ movement, forcing them to abandon their positions and retreat towards Barayan Zaki while attempting to cross the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route (MSR).
Determined to deny the fleeing fighters any opportunity to regroup, troops immediately commenced aggressive fighting patrols along the identified withdrawal routes.
The pursuit culminated in a fierce gun battle at Kombo High Ground along the Anka–Gummi MSR in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, where troops made contact with the withdrawing terrorists.
Sources said soldiers brought overwhelming firepower to bear on the terrorists, inflicting heavy casualties and forcing the surviving fighters to flee in disarray into surrounding forests.
Military authorities confirmed that scores of terrorists were neutralised during the engagement.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Anka, where he is receiving treatment. No military equipment was lost.
In continuation of the offensive, troops returned to the contact area on July 26 to conduct detailed exploitation operations aimed at clearing the battlefield, recovering abandoned items and preventing the terrorists from re-establishing their presence.
During the follow-up operation, troops recovered 13 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition and one machine gun round, while maintaining dominance of the general area through sustained patrols.
Military sources said Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to intensify offensive operations across the North-West by combining intelligence-led targeting with coordinated air and ground manoeuvres designed to dismantle terrorist networks and deny bandit leaders freedom of movement.
The latest operation is regarded as another significant blow against some of the most notorious terrorist commanders operating in the North-West, including Dogo Gide, long regarded as one of the region’s most wanted bandit leaders, and his associates.
Security officials said sustained pressure on these criminal networks is intended to degrade their operational capabilities, disrupt planned attacks on communities and security formations, and restore stability across Zamfara and adjoining states.
