Mizzima.. The National Unity Government (NUG) Tamu Township Emergency Administration (Central) issued a warning on July 21 to local residents to temporarily relocate from their villages to safer places due to intense fighting in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region.

As the military junta is advancing to regain control of the Asian Highway (Tamu-Kalay) in Tamu District, fighting between the two sides continues to intensify, increasing the risk of harm to local residents' lives, and a temporary evacuation order has been issued for the duration of the operation.

“The ground commanders told them to evacuate, but some did not. The military regime fired artillery and dropped aerial bombs, causing casualties. The main thing is to consider the safety of their lives and to issue a statement to prevent this from happening to other villages,” an official from the Tamu Township Emergency Management (Central) told Mizzima.

He said that the statement should be followed as there are difficulties in conducting military operations due to the continued presence of civilians in the operation area, as well as information security concerns.

The temporary relocation was announced to protect people from the dangers of airstrikes and artillery fire in the controlled area, as well as the dangers of arrest, use as hostages, and killing by the military regime.

The statement said that action would be taken if people continue to live in villages without temporarily moving to a safe place.

“We will not avoid and will work to bring the remaining people to safe places,” said an official from Tamu Township Emergency Management (Central).

According to local residents, the military regime forces set fire to houses in Kanmakyi Village, Tamu District, at around 8pm on July 21, but the extent of the damage has not yet been independently confirmed.

In addition, local sources said that there were also incidents where some displaced people temporarily returned to their villages and were arrested and killed after encountering the military regime forces.

Due to the fighting, about 10,000 people from most villages in Tamu district have fled to nearby villages, Kalay and India, according to those providing assistance to the displaced.

After the military junta leader's visit to India, which saw agreements on border stability and trade between the two countries, the military junta launched an offensive on areas controlled by the defense forces on the Tamu-Kalay road starting on June 8, and fighting has been ongoing for more than a month.
