At least five local residents, including a woman, were injured when three jet fighters from the Myanmar military junta bombed densely populated areas of Thandwe, a district town in Rakhine State.

The airstrikes targeted crowded sections of the town, specifically hitting Ward No. 2, the vicinity of the police station and local cinema, the Township Court, and U Utama Road. The attack occurred in the late afternoon.

"While one of the planes dropped bombs on residential areas, the others hovered above," a local witness told Narinjara. "Our initial information is that no less than five women were injured. There are also unconfirmed reports of fatalities. People are still hiding in bomb pits out of fear."

Among those who were injured were Ma Song Thakin (33 years old), Ma Htet Htet Myat (28 years old), Thet Wai Aung (31 years old), and Tun Naing Win (47 years old), as well as one other person from Ward No. 3 of Thandwe.

A local official corroborated the account, stating that the junta forces deliberately targeted the most populated areas of the city.

"I received reports that about five men and women were injured. We are still investigating the full extent of the damage," the official added.

The deadly airstrike on Thandwe occurred on the same day the military also bombed Ma-ai town in Taungup Township. That evening attack killed five civilians and injured fourteen others.
