Troops repel ISWAP attack in Gwoza, recover motorcycle
By: Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an encounter with suspected ISWAP terrorists along the Pulka–Kirawa road in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, forcing the insurgents to flee and abandon a motorcycle.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 3:32 p.m. on July 17 when troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion, operating from Kirawa, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Hybrid Forces, came into contact with the terrorists during a patrol.
The sources said the troops engaged the insurgents in a firefight, prompting the terrorists to retreat into the surrounding area under sustained military pressure.
Following the engagement, troops exploited the area and recovered one motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing offensive actions to dominate key routes and deny insurgents freedom of movement within the Gwoza axis and other parts of the North-East.
