UEMS / Ammunition Depot event in Indonesia on Thu 16th July 2026
16th July 2026
An explosion at a military munitions warehouse on Indonesia's Java island killed one soldier and injured six others on Thursday, with the army describing the incident as an accident, News.Az reports, citing The Star.
Army spokesperson Donny Pramono said the blast occurred at the facility in Madiun district while soldiers were conducting routine inspection and maintenance procedures.
"One personnel was declared dead, four suffered serious injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries," Donny told a televised news conference.
He added that military investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the explosion.
The incident follows another deadly military ammunition accident in Indonesia last year, when at least four soldiers and nine civilians were killed after troops attempted to dispose of rejected munitions by detonating them in a pit.
