Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 / Benin 🇧🇯 | On July 14th, a joint military operation was conducted in Koalou between Benin and Burkina Faso. 🔷 Following an agreement, the forces of Burkina Faso and Benin are conducting a joint operation against JNIM terrorists in the Koalou area on the Beninese side, along the border between the two countries. Beginning on July 14, 2026, the objective is to strengthen the security measures put in place by both countries to combat terrorism and armed groups present in the area. The aim is to conduct patrols to control the routes used by these fighters and thus protect border populations. ℹ️ As a reminder, the Koalou triangle (Burkinabè name) or Korou (Beninese name) is a 68 km² neutral zone on this border. This area had already been attacked by JNIM on May 25th. 🔶 Meanwhile, Niger has banned all vehicles transporting gasoline from crossing the Tillabéri region into Burkina Faso. With the terrorists running out of fuel, they are stuck on either side of the borders of these three countries—Burkina Faso, Benin, and Niger—awaiting resupply.
