Thai police are searching for the young migrant workers who were responsible for a shooting that left a 17-year-old Thai boy seriously injured in Ban Lam Moon, Chonburi province, southeast Thailand, according to Thai news reports.

On July 13, at around 6 a.m., the Naung Prey Police Station responded to a report of a shooting on Chaiyaphruek Road, Naung Prey Ward, Ban Lam Moon Township, and an injured person.

When officials arrived, the 17-year-old Thai youth, identified as “A,” was taken to the hospital by rescue workers and is undergoing surgery for a bullet wound to his right rib. The incident occurred at a single-story, tin-roofed house, with a chaotic scene inside, with damage to the walls and furniture.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of young men had previously come to the house and argued with the young man inside. They used sticks to destroy the wall of the house and the motorcycle parked in front of the house, threatened the people who were filming the video, and left. A short time later, they returned again and fought with the young men inside the house. Three gunshots were fired, hitting Nine-A. The young men stole the motorcycle and fled.

The friend of the gunshot victim, Nay B (18), testified that Nay A, who had previously been injured, called him to say that young migrants had come to his house and wanted to fight, so he came to help. There were already 3-4 young people there, and a fight broke out.

The problem stems from a problem that had been going on for months. Thai youths had complained to “Haiti,” a member of the moustache-led Thai nationalist group (Thai Mai Thon), about taking action against illegal migrant workers. They then engaged in a heated exchange on social media. The Cambodian and Burmese youths reportedly threatened to kill Haiti.

Then, “Hetty” himself arrived at the Nang Pri police station and confirmed that he had previously had a fight with a group of people and that there was a case. He also said that the group had been stalking him on social media and threatening to kill him, and that he had provided evidence to the police and requested legal protection.

The police have reported that the case involves Cambodian and Burmese workers, and although there have been reports, they are still investigating the true nature of the incident. In addition, they are collecting evidence, questioning relevant parties, and reviewing CCTV camera footage. The Thai police said that the truth of the incident depends on the strength of the evidence, and that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted according to the law.
