On 4 July 2026, in Ayabaca (Piura), an unknown number of unidentified perpetrators detonated an explosive device at the home of a Podemos Peru (PP) candidate for the Ayabaca provincial mayor's office. The attack took place shortly after the candidate returned home from a campaign activity. The house was damaged, but the candidate and his family were not harmed. There is no further information on the identity or motivation of the perpetrators. There were no casualties.
