On 6 July 2026, in Guayaquil - Ximena (Guayas), four individuals detonated an explosive device inside a business in southern Guayaquil. The perpetrators entered the premises, placed the explosive on a display counter, and fled. The device exploded shortly afterward, causing material damage but no injuries, even though the owner was inside the establishment. Hours later, police arrested those responsible, one adult and three minors. The attack was retaliation for refusing to pay extortion demands. There were no casualties.
