On 4 July 2026, overnight, a drone piloted by an unidentified armed group (likely M23, based on their increased use of drones in the area) struck a convoy of motorbikes carrying a deceased body in Baraka (Mutambala, Fizi, Sud-Kivu), to have a funeral ceremony. 5 people were killed. The provincial government of South Kivu issued a release saying the travelers were struck by lighting, not a drone. A military source said it was a Bayraktar TB3 drone that hit the convoy and that it had come from the just-conquered M23 Point Zero position.
