A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a shooting in Gävle on Friday evening. He is suspected of attempted murder on probable cause.

– Several explosions have been heard and an injured person has been found, says police spokesman Magnus Jansson Klarin.

SVT reporter Arvid Jansson says he heard about ten shots at 10 p.m. on Friday night in Sätra city center in Gävle. On Saturday morning, the police confirmed that it was a shooting.

Loaded into ambulance

An injured person was found outside and taken to hospital, and the extent of the injury is still unclear.

– I saw a person being loaded into an ambulance, says SVT's reporter Arvid Jansson at the scene.

At 7:40 a.m., the police told SVT Nyheter that they had arrested a 25-year-old man during the night on suspicion of the shooting, who was arrested on Saturday.

– Interrogations will be held over the weekend, and no later than Tuesday, prosecutors will decide whether the person should be remanded in custody, says Annie Nilsson at the Swedish Prosecution Authority's press service.

Train traffic was stopped

A major police operation was underway overnight in the search for a perpetrator or perpetrators. The police used a helicopter in the hunt and all train traffic to and from Gävle was temporarily stopped.

Since one person has been arrested, the preliminary investigation is now being led by prosecutors.

The police are investigating whether there is a connection to gang crime and are also investigating whether there is footage from surveillance cameras in the area.
