IED event in Odisha, Malkangiri District area, India on Sun 28th June 2026

On June 28, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a large cache of arms, explosives and communication equipment from a concealed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dump in the Gunthabada and Kadamguda Forests under Kalimela Police Station limits in Malkangiri District, Odisha, following a search operation launched on the basis of intelligence provided by surrendered Maoists, reports The New Indian Express. The operation, carried out by the District Voluntary Force (DVF) near the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border (AOB), resulted in the recovery of two Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), two country-made pistols, one United States (US)-made pistol, a .303 rifle barrel, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one Claymore mine, four Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) cells, seven walkie-talkies, batteries, antennas, 45 pen drives, one hard disk, one power bank, five live cartridges, detonating wires and CPI-Maoist uniforms, among other materials. Police suspect the cache belonged to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC). Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Patil stated that this was the third CPI-Maoist dump unearthed in Malkangiri during June 2026, adding that regular combing operations by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and DVF would continue to prevent any resurgence of Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
