SAA event in Khagrachari, Paining Para, Guimara Sub-District area, Bangladesh on Fri 26th June 2026

On June 26, a local leader of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) identified as Jhimit Chakma was arrested with bullet injuries after an exchange of gunfire between the UPDF faction led by Prosit and a faction of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) in a remote Paining Para area of Hafchari Union in Guimara Upazila (Sub-District) of Khagrachari District, reports newagebd.net. Chakma was described by Police and the UPDF as the Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT)-based regional UPDF’s Guimara Upazila (Sub-District) organiser. After receiving information about the clash, army personnel conducted a search operation in the area and recovered Jhimit Chakma with bullet injuries from the scene. The clash reportedly erupted over territorial dominance between the UPDF faction led by Prosit Bikash Khisa and a rival PCJSS faction.
