SAA event in Islamabad area, Pakistan on Mon 6th July 2026
6th July 2026
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on July 6 claimed responsibility for the attack on Group Captain Asim Tariq, asserting that their "targeted killing team" from the North Punjab province carried out the operation, reports Frontier Files. Furthermore, the TTP has rejected the Islamabad Police's account of the incident including claims that a woman was rescued and that a young suspect was arrested labelling these reports as fabricated propaganda. As reported in the media, the PAF personnel Asim Tariq officer was killed on July 5 after being shot while trying to save a woman from an alleged abduction attempt, near Shaheen Chowk in Sector F-8 within the jurisdiction of the Margalla Police Station. Police later announced that the suspect had been arrested before he fled the city. According to details, Group Captain Asim Tariq was en route to Rawalpindi for an official assignment. When he was passing by, he saw the man forcefully pulling a woman towards his bike. The officer took a U-turn and stopped near the bike. As he intervened, the woman approached his vehicle, ostensibly for safety. Police said the suspect first argued with the PAF officer, and then opened fire on him. Suspected killer arrested within nine hours of incident before fleeing from city, says Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad.
