4th July 2026
On July 4, a hand grenade was recovered from the residence of former Thongju Assembly Constituency MLA and former Manipur Minister Bijoy Koijam at Thongju Pheijaleitong in Imphal East District, Northeast Now reports. Police safely recovered the explosive and registered a case. In a statement issued on July 5, the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) claimed responsibility for grenade attacks on Koijam's residence on June 28, and July 4, as well as an explosion at the residence of Phurailatpam Bhavananda Sharma on June 26. PREPAK accused Koijam of acting as an agent of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), issued him a seven-day ultimatum to cease alleged "anti-revolutionary activities", and threatened to try him before its self-styled "people's court" if he failed to comply.
