On June 28, a man identified as Jouthan Bawm, 55, was detained with a firearm during a military operation in a remote area of Thanchi Upazila (sub-District) in Bandarban District on suspicion of links to the Kuki-Chin National Front (KCNF), reports The Daily Star. Bawm was later handed over to Police on July 4, 2026. According to Police, a joint security forces team launched a special operation targeting what authorities described as a hideout jointly used by the Kuki-Chin National Army (KCNA), armed wing of the KCNF and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-Main). Suspected members of the armed groups opened fire after detecting the presence of the security forces (SFs), triggering an exchange of gunfire.
