On July 3, a Taliban group ‘commander’ identified as Musafir was shot dead in the Hasha Khel area of Chaparhar District in Nangarhar Province, and his brother was arrested on suspicion of killing him, reports Afghanistan International. According to a statement from the Taliban, Musafir had gone home while on leave and was killed inside his house. The motive remains unclear. Taliban police command in Nangarhar, however, stated that preliminary findings indicated that the detained man had a mental illness.
