Five civilians and one monk injured as military continues artillery and air strikes on civilian villages in Shwebo and KNU territories

Mandalay Region's Shwebo Township and Myeik, a Karen National Union (KNU) controlled area -Dawaiti District, the junta has repeatedly shelled and carried out airstrikes on civilian villages, injuring five civilians and one monk, according to local sources. and the KNU have reported that the stationed military council forces fired at least seven rounds of howitzer artillery indiscriminately.

At around 7 a.m. on 9 July, near the Pankamya shop north of Lapankya village, Shwe Kyuk Township, The stationed military council forces fired at least seven rounds of howitzer artillery, with the shells landing and exploding behind Sinthay village and to the north-east of Ywahtaung village, according to the Wetlet Informational Network. According to the Wetlet Informational Network, shells from the stationed military council forces were fired indiscriminately at least seven times, with the projectiles landing and exploding behind Singu Thayet village and to the north-east of Htawk Thayet village.

As a result of the shelling, five civilians were injured: U Tun Nyein (62), U Win Shwe (59), Ko Phoe Taw (31) and Ko Wai Lin Tun of Thay Taung Village. (28), and one unidentified local, a total of five civilians were reportedly injured.

An official from the Wetlet Informational Network stated that the military had also fired similar artillery in previous days, but there were no casualties. He said that today, around seven shells were fired, injuring five local residents from the village.
