Suspect in murder of 5-year-old girl in Thanbyuzayat shot dead after allegedly fleeing

Yangon, 8 July

In Yangon Region, A police source said that the suspect, Ryi Win Paing, who had snatched the earrings from and raped and murdered the five-year-old girl, Maw Thar Say, in Thanbyuzayat Township, was shot dead on the claim that he had escaped. 

On the morning of 3 July, 5-year-old Mawtar Saying went missing from her home after preparing for school. Her body was later found at around 11:20 p.m. that same day in a rubbish dump near Kya Myint Lane, in Taw Chaung village, Thantapyin Township, The child's body was later found wrapped in a blanket and a hessian sack and dumped in a rubbish heap beside U Kamin Street.

The body was taken to Thakhinnya Public Hospital for examination, where it was found that the child had been sexually assaulted and had bruising all over her body. and that the forceful removal of her gold earrings had caused injuries that nearly tore her earlobes from her ears.

The perpetrator of the incident was arrested in Nat Talin, Pegu Region, on 6 July, and the accused, Rwin Paing, also confessed to murdering and raping the child. The accused, Rwin Paing, is known to be a native of Khnwe Kha Pho village, Panthawarddy Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

On 7 July, the accused, Ryi Win Paing, was taken to the scene of the crime and was made to re-enact how he committed the offence,  the clothes he was wearing at the time of the offence were hidden in Than Taing Township, Thapayek Village, It is understood that while escorting the accused, Police Constable Nyein Lin Dict, to the wooded area along the road to the Myint Thit Port for a re-enactment, he fled, whereupon the officer shot and killed him. 

It is understood that, although the accused, Police Constable Win Paing, has died, the case will be pursued, brought before the court and a verdict secured. 

‘Although the accused has died, the case will be continued, taken to court, and the necessary orders will be issued,’ a police source said.
