While the military junta is trying to show that the security situation has improved by announcing that it has fully controlled the Monywa-Yagyi-Kalaywa road, on the other hand, revolutionary forces continue to intercept and attack military convoys along the Chindwin River in Sagaing Region. This situation shows that the military situation on the ground is not as stable as the military junta claims.
Local defense groups and administration officials have responded to the junta’s announcement that the roads have been reopened, saying it is “just propaganda to show India and the world.” Analysts believe the junta wants to show that it can control the India-Myanmar communication routes at a time when the security of the routes is of strategic importance in the region.
At the same time, a group of 28 warships arriving from Monywa were attacked by rebel forces between Kani and Minkin. The attack on this group of vessels carrying drones, weapons, and food shows that the Chindwin River remains a hotbed of military competition to this day.
