MALI 🇲🇱 | Situation update following the "second phase" of coordinated attacks by the FLA and JNIM.

In Anefis, the Africa Corps and the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) remain entrenched in their camp. Yesterday afternoon, four helicopters left Gao to resupply the units trapped in Anefis and evacuate the wounded. Two of these helicopters were hit by the FLA, one of which crashed; the other two turned back.

Several Russian armored vehicles were also reportedly destroyed following FLA drone attacks. Fighting reportedly resumed this morning around the camp.

In Gao, a reinforcement convoy, composed of members of the Africa Corps and the FAMa, left the city on July 4th and is still en route to Anefis. The situation has returned to calm in the city.

🔴 On the evening of July 4th, JNIM claimed responsibility for 10 attacks across Mali (📸 translation of the statement in the comments):

  • Capture of 3 FAMa positions (Kéniéroba, Kouakourou, Tio);
  • Capture of 4 Dozo positions (Konna, Soumadougou, Karakani, Séni Koro);
  • Attack against the Dozo militia headquarters in Gouri Bouji;
  • Clash with FAMa in Sofara;
  • Bombing of a FAMa barracks in Léré.

They have not yet claimed responsibility for any of the clashes in Azawad (Anéfis, Aguelhok, Gao).

🔵 The Malian Armed Forces issued a statement on the morning of July 4th regarding attacks in Aguelhok, Anéfis, Gao, Sévaré (Sofara), and Kéniéroba, asserting that the situation was completely under control. Later that day, they announced they had repelled attacks in Konna and Somadougou. (📸 See statements in the comments). They also claimed to have conducted airstrikes on Anéfis and Konna.

🟡 The Azawad Liberation Front, for its part, only reported controlling key positions within Anéfis and neutralizing helicopters coming from Gao.

ℹ️ The lack of a claim of responsibility from JNIM regarding the clashes in the north of the country, combined with the continued presence of Afrika Korps and Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) units in the Anéfis camp, indicates that neither side considers the situation to be stable. TO BE CONTINUED...
