IED event in Thailand on Mon 29th June 2026
29th June 2026
On 29 June 2026, Malay Muslim separatists detonated a roadside improvised explosive device concealed beneath a culvert along the Sapo-Tak Bai road in Phraiwan village, Phrai Wan, Tak Bai (Narathiwat), targeting an armored vehicle carrying four volunteer defense corps personnel returning to Sungai Kolok district. The explosion missed the intended target and instead struck a passing Malaysian-registered car that was overtaking the security vehicle, injuring two Malaysian civilians and severely damaging the vehicle. Authorities found a large crater and assessed that the remote-controlled IED, concealed in a gas cylinder, contained at least 70 kg of explosives.
