On 3 July 2026, in the morning, an armed group (likely JNIM, based on modus operandi and previous militant activity in the area) conducted kamikaze drone attacks (likely IED-rigged drones) against individuals washing by the river at K19, located 4 km north of Peken, coded to the communal capital Banamba K01 (Dogofry, Niono, Segou). The attack resulted in four injuries. The injured were initially taken to the Dogofry health center and later evacuated to Niono hospital.
