On 28 June 2026, Pakistani military forces carried out an air strike on a residential building in Mara Wara district, Kunar Province. The airstrike injured two children, destroyed the residential building and killed a number of livestock. Taliban authorities stated that Pakistani airstrikes across Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar Provinces (coded separately) killed a total of 36 civilians, including children and one woman, injured 163 others and destroyed three residential houses as well as killed livestock, while UNAMA confirmed at least 28 civilian fatalities across strikes in the three provinces. Pakistan, however, stated that the operation targeted the hideouts of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in border areas, that resulted in killing of 28 militants and the destruction of three militant facilities. Pakistani authorities stated that the strikes were conducted in response to recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Karachi, including an assault on a Pakistan Rangers camp in Karachi. No fatalities.
