SAA event in Mexico on Mon 6th July 2026

During the early hours of Monday, an armed attack occurred at Plaza Atara, located on Avenida Latinoamericana in the Valles area of ​​Uruapan, Michoacán. The attack left one woman dead and a man seriously injured. The incident took place minutes after midnight, when residents and witnesses alerted law enforcement after hearing multiple gunshots in the shopping center. Paramedics from Civil Protection, rescue and salvage personnel, as well as officers from the Municipal Police and the National Guard, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Authorities found a woman lying in the parking lot with severe gunshot wounds. After an initial assessment, paramedics confirmed she had no vital signs. Police were also notified that a man who was with her was seriously injured in the attack. He was transported in a private vehicle to a nearby hospital for specialized medical care. The perimeter of the shopping center was cordoned off by first responders to preserve the crime scene. Minutes later, forensic experts and agents from the State Attorney General's Office arrived to collect ballistic evidence, open the corresponding investigation, and remove the body, which was taken to the Forensic Medical Service as an unidentified person.
