A security source said that a suspect attempted to detonate explosives near the Kashkoul checkpoint in Damascus early morning, but was killed when one of the devices exploded on him after security forces intervened. The assailant, identified as a wanted individual accused of murder and drug trafficking, had opened fire on security personnel during inspection, while his accomplice was arrested. Three officers were injured by shrapnel and transferred for treatment.
