A man in his 20s was shot dead in Uppsala on Sunday evening. A boy under the age of 18 has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

– Tragic, you wonder where we are heading in society, says Diana Stockelin, who was greeted by blue lights during the night.

The alarm was received at 9:11 p.m.

– A man in his 20s was found at the scene and was later pronounced deceased, says Pelle Vamstad, press spokesperson for the police.

Relatives have been notified of the death.

The police cordoned off an area in the Kvarngärdet district of Uppsala and were on site with a large number of patrols. A police helicopter was circling the scene and several ambulances were also on site.

Investigating murder

During the evening and night, the police searched the scene for any evidence that could help the investigation. They also interviewed witnesses and checked any cameras in the area.

A preliminary investigation into murder has been opened. During the night of Monday, the police arrested a suspect boy who is now being held by prosecutors.

“Does not exclude other parties involved”

– Right now we are working to investigate the criminal suspicions against the arrested person. But I do not rule out that others may be involved and therefore we are working broadly to investigate who may be suspects in the case, says senior prosecutor Mia Sjöstedt, in a press release.
