A man was shot dead in the Western Port of Malmö late Wednesday evening.

– The man's life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, says Peter Martin, police officer on duty.

It was shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday evening that several people raised the alarm after hearing gunshots in the Western Port of Malmö.

According to SVT's reporter, it happened on an open street and many residents in the area witnessed the incident.

A man in his 30s was arrested in a car in the area and has been taken into custody. The man is suspected of murder and the car has been seized.

“It gets under your skin”

Christian Neckling lives with his family very nearby and he finds it uncomfortable.

– It's scary, it gets under your skin. We used to live at Möllevångstorget and moved away because there was so much happening all the time, he says.

– We moved here because it's quiet and safe. And that's what happens here too.

Large barrier

The police cordoned off a large area and used drones in their work at the scene. Witnesses in the vicinity have been interviewed and door knocking has been carried out in the area. The cordons were lifted early this morning.

– We are working hard to investigate whether there are surveillance cameras in the area that can help us further, says Nils Norling, press spokesperson for the police.

The police are currently unable to answer whether the deceased was previously known to the police or whether the crime is linked to gang crime.
