Police have shot a man in the leg after he chased several people with knife-like objects.

At 9pm on Tuesday evening, the police were called to a residential area in Svalöv. A 35-year-old man is said to have chased several people with a knife-like object. At 11pm, the police wrote on their website that the man had been arrested and a report of serious threats against an official had been filed.

– He is said to have been in various gardens and chased people with a knife, axe or other edged weapon, says Leif Fransson, press spokesman for the police.

Not life-threateningly injured

According to prosecutor Liv Dansdotter Nyström, the man, who is now in custody, is said to have threatened around ten private individuals, several of them young adults. After the man attacked the police, the police first fired warning shots and then shot the man in the leg.

– He is still in hospital and will be questioned during the day together with a defense attorney. We have also taken blood samples to see if he was under the influence, says prosecutor Liv Dansdotter Nyström.

There are no reports of any more injured people.

– We need to get a comprehensive picture and talk to witnesses. But there are a number of crime categories he could be suspected of, says Leif Fransson.

Suspected of multiple crimes

The arrested man is suspected of several cases of aggravated threats against an official as well as aggravated violations of the Knife Act, aggravated unlawful threats and attempted murder.
