SAA event in Mexico on Mon 29th June 2026

An armed attack carried out on the night of Monday, June 29, in the La Cantera 2 neighborhood of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, resulted in the death of an active-duty member of the Investigative Police, who was ambushed upon arriving at his home.

The incident occurred on Calizas Street, where residents alerted authorities via the emergency number after hearing multiple gunshots. The victim, identified as Officer Juan José, was arriving at his residence in a late-model gray Mazda SUV when he was intercepted by hitmen traveling in another vehicle.

The assailants pulled up alongside the vehicle and fired repeatedly at the investigative police officer. After being hit, the officer managed to get out of the vehicle and attempted to reach safety, but fell, seriously wounded, onto the street. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived at the scene minutes later and confirmed that the officer no longer had vital signs due to the severity of his gunshot wounds.
