SAA event in Mexico on Wed 1st July 2026

An armed attack carried out by a commando during a community event in the municipality of Yautepec , Morelos , left three people dead and nine wounded , including Sandy Hernández, the pre-candidate for mayor for the New Alliance party.

The events took place at the Puentecillas community sports field , located in the town of Rancho Nuevo , where dozens of residents had gathered for a fan fest to watch the soccer match between the Mexican and Ecuadorian national teams.

The large gathering was organized by Hernández herself, a political figure promoted by the Alonso family—a group that has led the local administration in recent terms—with an eye toward the 2027 elections, for which the candidacy is reserved for women. According to witnesses, gunmen violently stormed the venue and fired directly at the presidential candidate , her husband, and the crowd, which included women, senior citizens, and minors.
