On 23 July 2021, in Kani township (Yimarbin district, Sagaing region), the military forces fired heavy artillery and mortar shells from a speedboat, believed to be carrying jade, in the Chindwin River at Kin, Ke Taung, and Bon Ma Zin villages indiscriminately. No casualties reported but thousands of residents were forced to flee.
