The Military Headquarters of the National Unity Government (NUG) released a statement stating that following a dispute rooted in the release of a detained villager, four of their subordinate personnel were killed by landmines and many others were injured when they raided a former People's Liberation Army (PLA) camp in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Region.

In Taungtha Township, Myingyan District, located over 20 miles across the Irrawaddy River from Pakokku Town, the military junta controls the urban area and some nearby villages, while other villages are controlled by forces under the NUG Ministry of Defense (MoD) as well as members of the PLA, which is the armed wing of the Communist Party of Burma. The PLA operates independently and is not under the command of the NUG.

According to the PDF Military Headquarters' statement, after NUG forces ordered the PLA troops to withdraw from the Myingyan region, they raided abandoned PLA camps at a location in Taungtha Township on the afternoon of June 22, where they triggered landmines near the barracks where PLA comrades sleep, resulting in casualties and injuries.

Regarding the NUG comrades hitting the landmines, the PLA stated that the mines were not intended for fellow revolutionary comrades but were set up routinely for camp security to defend against enemy columns, and that the casualties occurred only because the other group forcibly entered the camp in large numbers.

Currently, both sides have issued counter-statements, and disputes continue over who is right and who is wrong.

The conflict began with the PLA's detention of a local man living in Weloung Village, Taungtha Township.
