A Mexicali State Citizen Security Force (FESC) officer, identified as 32-year-old Manuel Enrique Guerrero Sánchez, was killed Saturday night in the town of Benito Juárez, located in the Mexicali Valley. This murder marks the second FESC officer killed in less than 24 hours in separate attacks in the municipality. The officer was off duty at the time of the attack and was standing outside a taco stand when armed men opened fire on him multiple times. His body was found next to his vehicle. During the attack, 31-year-old Martha Icela was also wounded, sustaining several gunshot wounds. She was transported in critical condition to a Mexicali hospital for specialized medical care. At the crime scene, forensic experts collected dozens of spent shell casings of various calibers. Simultaneously with the processing of the crime scene, law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government launched a search operation in the region, locating a burned-out vehicle in another town in the Mexicali Valley. This vehicle was used by the attackers to flee. The State Attorney General's Office is in charge of the corresponding investigations to clarify the facts, collect evidence at both crime scenes, and locate those responsible for the attack.
