The Royal Gendarmerie in Tangier has opened an investigation into the shooting incident involving a hunting rifle that occurred in the Exnaya area on Thursday. The incident involved a dangerous, Hollywood-style chase between two cars on the coastal road linking the Al-Hajriyyin area and Tangier Airport, with reckless maneuvers that alarmed other road users.

Initial investigations are focusing on examining the background of the conflict between the parties involved, who are suspected of being linked to drug smuggling networks, especially given the suspicion that it is related to conflicts over smuggling routes or the sharing of proceeds from illegal activities. These are hypotheses currently being scrutinized by the relevant authorities.

Initial reports indicate that the incident escalated to the use of a hunting rifle, with three shots fired under still unclear circumstances. No injuries have been confirmed. One of the vehicles then fled towards the Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport road, while the other disappeared from sight.

The incident prompted the Royal Gendarmerie in Tangier to quickly move to the scene and begin its field investigations to identify the people involved and track their movements, while an investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the case.
