On June 25, a class 6 student, Ethan Ahmed, 12, was shot and injured during a clash between two rival groups identified as Opu and Sabibor groups outside his school in Cumilla District, while students were on their tiffin break, reports The Daily Star. Ahmed is a student of Katabil Rafiq Uddin Memorial High School. According to reports, the rival Opu and Sabibor groups have long been locked in a dispute over drug trafficking and control of the Katabil area. Tensions that began on June 24, 2026, escalated into a series of clashes, during which several crude bombs were reportedly detonated.
