SAA event in Punjab, Amritsar District area, India on Tue 23rd June 2026

On June 23, Police arrested three persons, identified as Gurdev Singh alias Gurdev, Jashanpreet Singh alias Jassu, and Harparasdeep Singh alias Paras, along with a .30 bore Zigana pistol, eight live cartridges, a Thar vehicle, a motorcycle and two mobile phones linked to an extortion and armed robbery module operated by Europe-based handlers in Amritsar District of Punjab, reports The Tribune. Another accused, Maheep Singh, remains absconding. The arrests followed investigations into a firing and robbery incident at a petrol pump on Loharka Road in Amritsar on May 22, in which assailants looted INR 25,000 at gunpoint. Police Commissioner (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that the module was operating under the directions of Europe-based handler Judgebir Singh alias Karan, allegedly linked to foreign-based gangsters Balwinder Singh alias Doni Bal and Prabh Dasuwal. Police said the accused were involved in at least seven firing, extortion and robbery cases across Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur Districts.
