IED event in Odisha, Badalipahad Forest, Koraput District area, India on Mon 22nd June 2026

On June 22, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a major cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and logistical supplies belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) from the Badalipahad Forest under the Boipariguda Police Station limits in Koraput District, Odisha, near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, reports The Times of India. Acting on intelligence obtained from surrendered Maoists, a joint team of the District Voluntary Force (DVF), Special Operations Group (SOG) and Koraput Police launched a search operation at around 5:30 am. During the operation, SFs recovered one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, six country-made firearms, one Claymore mine weighing approximately 18 kilograms, one 10-kilogram tiffin bomb Improvised Explosive Device (IED), six tiffin bomb IEDs weighing around four kilograms each, Maoist kit bags, literature, medicines and food supplies. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohit Verma stated that the recovered materials are suspected to belong to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and were intended for use against SF personnel and civilians. Following the recovery, intensified search, combing and area-dominance operations were launched in adjoining forest areas to locate additional Maoist hideouts and arms dumps.
