Missile event in Poltava Oblast, Poltava area, Ukraine on Mon 22nd June 2026
22nd June 2026
A resident of the Ukrainian city of Poltava filmed a Russian small-sized cruise missile known as Banderol flying overhead. Judging by the reaction of the person behind the camera, the appearance of the munition made a strong impression. The video is accompanied by loud shouts that the missile is flying.
The Russian Armed Forces have repeatedly used Banderol in the combat zone since at least early June 2026. During that period, the missile was employed in strikes on Kiev, as well as on Ukrainian military facilities in Nikolayev and the Kharkov region.
The first reports about Banderol appeared in 2025. The American publication 19FortyFive described the system as an analogue of the US JASSM missile and a cheaper alternative to the Kh-101 for high-precision air-launched strikes against ground targets.
The missile is about five meters long, while its estimated range is roughly 500 kilometers. The newest Russian munition is notable for its low visibility and could create serious difficulties for Ukrainian air defense, both because of the emergence of this type of weapon and due to the possibility of transporting unmanned aerial vehicles.
There have also been reports of plans to upgrade Russian Aerospace Forces Su-25 attack aircraft so they can carry Banderol missiles and Geran-5 jet-powered UAVs.
