Unidentified armed groups attacked several cities in Mali on Saturday, including the capital, Bamako, where explosions and gunfire were reported near Modibo Keïta International Airport and an air base.

The Malian army said in a statement that “the situation is under control” and that its soldiers are “committed to eliminating the attackers.”

Residents of Kati, Sévaré, Mopti, Kidal, and Gao also reported attacks and gunfire.
