A paramilitary Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) trooper was killed, and another was injured in an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on July 20, reports Hindustan Times. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, said, the encounter took place near Aamdai Valley, when a road opening party of the ITBP’s 45th battalion was out to clear the movement of Chandan Kashyap, the member of Chhattisgarh assembly from Narayanpur. “After the convoy of Kashyap passed through the area around 10 am, a small action team of Maoists opened fire on the ITBP jawans. One jawan, Shiv Kumar Meena, died while assistant sub-inspector Keshav Ram suffered minor injuries,” said Sundarraj P.|The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a former colleague, Raju Venjam (28), who had quit their outfit and was leading a normal life in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on July 20, reports India Today. The rebels abducted Verma on July 18, when he was working at his field in Padeda village under Kotwali Police Station limits, Police said. The dead body of Verma, bearing injuries inflicted by sharp weapons, was found lying on a road near the village on July 20 morning. As per preliminary information, the deceased, who was associated with banned CPI-Maoist for a long time, returned to his village a few years back and since then he was doing farming, Police said. The victim had not officially surrendered before authorities, Police added.|
