Intense fighting is taking place near the Win Wa military camp on Union Highway No. 8 in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to local residents.
It is learned that fighting has been ongoing since early this morning (June 15) between a military junta column emerging from the Win Wa camp and joint revolutionary forces between Min Dat and Thi Kone villages.
"The military came out from the Min Dat Win Wa camp side. People from the lower villages have already fled. The sounds of heavy artillery are also continuous. The firing from both sides is quite intense," a resident of Min Dat village said at around 9:30 AM today.
The fighting reportedly stopped once around 9:30 AM, but renewed clashes broke out again around 5:00 PM this evening.
The casualty details for both sides during the clashes are not yet known.
