Police Recover Firearms, Ammunition Hidden in Vehicle in Nasarawa

By: Zagazola Makama

The Nasarawa State Police Command has recovered two locally made pistols and live ammunition concealed inside a vehicle brought to a workshop for repairs in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources said the discovery was made following a report by Adam Yunusa, a motor vehicle panel beater based near the International Market in Mararaba.

According to sources, a customer identified simply as Isaac had, on June 17, brought an unregistered Toyota Corolla car to the workshop for panel beating.

While carrying out repair work on the vehicle, the panel beater reportedly discovered a polythene bag hidden inside one of the door panels.

The bag was found to contain two locally made English Beretta pistols without serial numbers and four rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

Following the discovery, police commenced an investigation into the ownership of the vehicle and the recovered weapons.

Investigators subsequently invited and arrested ASP Sanusi Ali, a resident of Capital Gateway in Ado Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and attached to the Kakuri Area Command in Kaduna State, for questioning over allegations that he had previously sold the vehicle to the suspect identified as Isaac.

The recovered firearms and ammunition have been taken into police custody as exhibits.

Police authorities said efforts were being intensified to locate and arrest Isaac, who remains at large, while investigations continue to determine the source and intended use of the weapons.
