He has been remanded in custody A man has been charged with producing ricin in Salford. Emergency services were called out to concerns for a person's welfare at a flat on Rowland Street, near Salford Quays, on Sunday, May 31. Greater Manchester Police says substances which were alleged to be potentially hazardous were removed from the property. A 28-year-old man was later arrested. In an update issued this morning (June 10), GMP confirmed he had since been charged. Callum Browne, of Rowland Street, Salford, has been charged with production of a biological toxin (ricin) under the Section 2 Chemical Weapons Act 1996 and attempt production of a psychoactive substance contrary to S1 Criminal Attempts Act 1981. Mr Browne is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court later today. A GMP spokesperson added: "This charge comes after a man was arrested after officers were called by North West Ambulance Service to a property on Rowland Street, Salford shortly after 8.30pm on Sunday, May 31 2026 after they attended a concern for welfare. Officers attended and found substances believed to be potentially hazardous however these were removed, and no injuries were reported."
