A chemical spill sparked a fire and forced evacuations at a New Jersey university Tuesday, where five people were decontaminated and one was taken to a hospital. Local firefighters and county officials responded to a fire at Stockton University’s Unified Science Center in Galloway Township, the school said. | READ NEXT: The first 10 minutes of a hazmat EMS call Three staff members and two contractors underwent decontamination after leaving the building, the spokesperson said. A person taken to a hospital was evaluated as a precaution. The university described the spill as accidental. A small fire broke out after a spill involving chlorine, bromine and hydrochloric acid in an isolated area, the spokesperson said. The university’s police department responded to the building. Firefighters from the Pomona, Bayview and Germania fire departments in Galloway Township also responded.
