SAA event in Sinaloa, Mazatlán, Lázaro Cárdenas area, Mexico on Thu 18th June 2026

An armed attack Thursday afternoon left one woman dead and another wounded near the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood in the port city of Mazatlán , Sinaloa . The crime occurred in a busy area, causing panic among pedestrians and motorists.

The victims were traveling in a gray Nissan Versa on Miguel Alemán Avenue. As they approached the Bodega Aurrerá store , they were intercepted by gunmen who opened fire directly on them before fleeing.

Following the gunshots, passersby and employees of nearby businesses alerted emergency services. Paramedics arrived at the scene to assist the occupants of the car; however, upon medical evaluation, they confirmed that one of the women had no vital signs due to the severity of her gunshot wounds.Journalistic investigations

The woman who survived the attack received initial treatment at the scene from rescue services. After being stabilized, she was urgently transferred to a city hospital under police guard for specialized medical care.

Members of the National Guard and local police forces established a security perimeter and closed traffic on Miguel Alemán Avenue to preserve the crime scene. The area was secured to prevent the disturbance of evidence.

Experts and investigators from the Sinaloa State Attorney General's Office were in charge of processing the area, collecting the spent shell casings, securing the car, and initiating the corresponding investigation file for the crime of homicide and injuries, with the objective of identifying those responsible and clarifying the motive for the attack.
