SAA event in Tijuana, Zona Río area, Mexico on Wed 17th June 2026

An armed attack on Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026, left two men dead inside the Torre Cosmopolitan City Center corporate complex , located on Sánchez Taboada Boulevard in the Zona Río of Tijuana . 

The gunshots were reported by citizens through the 9-1-1 emergency line at 6:25 p.m., which generated an intense deployment of law enforcement in this administrative and commercial sector.

Municipal Police officers, the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) and the State Investigation Agency (AEI) arrived at the site immediately, supported by members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard, who proceeded to establish a strict perimeter fence. 

Mexican Red Cross paramedics arrived to provide first aid to the victims; however, they determined that both men had already died from gunshot wounds.

According to preliminary information from the case file, one of the deceased was carrying identification in the name of Juan Antonio Ruiz Rayas , an identity later confirmed by a family member at the crime scene. Intelligence reports link the deceased's last name to a family connected to the operational activities of the Arellano Félix Cartel ( CAF ) in the border region.Books on organized crime

Initial investigations indicate that the attack was perpetrated by three armed individuals , who, after committing the double homicide, escaped towards the city center in a metropolitan taxi marked with the economic number 05123.

The mobilization and real-time monitoring through the control center's video surveillance cameras allowed the Municipal Police patrols to intercept the suspicious public transport unit on the West Fast Lane, near the Frontera newspaper building. 

During the tactical intervention, three alleged perpetrators of the attack were arrested and handed over to the State Attorney General's Office to determine their legal status, while forensic experts began collecting ballistic evidence at the corporate tower.
