Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Dorset, Christchurch area, United Kingdom on Thu 18th June 2026

Three people have been charged with explosives and firearms offences after suspected explosive devices were found at a property.

Dozens of residents were forced to leave their homes after an initial item was discovered by Dorset Police in Suffolk Avenue, Christchurch at about 09:30 BST on Monday.

Further suspected devices were made safe by a bomb disposal team and the 50m (164ft) cordon was lifted at 18:00 BST on Thursday.

Jacqueline Davis, 60, James Davis, 33, and an unnamed man in his 60s have been charged with offences including possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, failing to comply with shotgun and firearm certificates and possessing an explosive substance with intent.

The named defendants appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court and were remanded in custody to appear again on 26 June.

The third accused has been taken to hospital for treatment for a medical issue, police said.

Clive King, who has lived on the street for 26 years, was forced to leave his home on Monday.

Speaking before the cordon was lifted, he said he had been sleeping in his car to monitor the scene, adding: "I'm looking forward to my first hot shower."

Roy Stacey, another long-term resident, said he was eager to get back to his cat.

He said: "It's very strange. We've never had anything like this at all. You never see a police car down here."

Dorset Police thanked residents for their patience.

Det Ch Insp Paul Graham said: "We fully recognise and appreciate the impact this will have had on residents and we really thank everyone for their support.

"It has been a very challenging and complex search and the cordon was absolutely vital to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

"I am really pleased that everyone is now able to return to their properties."
